Funded by the UK government, the Pride in Place Programme is a long-term community-led programme designed to improve everyday life in neighbourhoods facing the greatest challenges.

Within the second phase of the programme, £20 million in funding will go towards improving the Town Centre, Peasley Cross, Fingerpost, Parr, and Sutton wards of St Helens over the next 10 years.

A public consultation has opened today (Thursday 29 October) and will run until midnight on Sunday 6 December 2026 to give residents, businesses and community groups in the area the opportunity to share what matters most to them, with local events and a dedicated website forming part of the process

'Our Place - the name of the newly formed Neighbourhood Board made up of dedicated public, private and third sector representatives, chaired by local business leader Mike Denning - will use community feedback to inform a 10-year vision for the area, which will focus on nine potential investment themes. These are:

  • Regeneration, high streets and heritage
  • Housing;
  • Work, productivity and skills
  • Cohesion
  • Community power
  • Health and wellbeing
  • Transport
  • Safety and security
  • Education and opportunity

The outcome of the public consultation will help shape the next four years of the programme and prioritise where investment should be spent to address the key issues and local priorities of the community.

Mike Denning, Chair of Our Place Neighbourhood Board, said:

"We are thrilled that St Helens Town Centre East and Fingerpost has been awarded funding from the Pride in Place programme.

"Our Place Neighbourhood Board is made up of local people who really care about our local community, and this is an opportunity for every local voice to be heard as we work together for the future of the area.

"This engagement period will help us establish the investment themes, using your views and feedback to establish our key priorities for the years ahead.

"Local people understand the needs of their area better than anyone, and it is important you come to visit one of our public events in November, write to us, or fill out the online feedback form through the dedicated website. It is a real chance to decide the future of your area."

In addition to the online consultation, four drop-in events have been scheduled to take place, with the first two locations being:

  • Morrisons (Baxters Lane, WA9 3DH) - Friday 13th November, 3pm- 7pm
  • Church Square Outdoor Market (Church Square, off Church Street, WA10 1AF) - Tuesday 17th November 9am-2:30pm

Please look out for further communications if you live in Peasley Cross, Fingerpost and Parr for your engagement events!
