Sutton Family Hub has something to smile about this October half term
Families are invited to enjoy some half-term fun while picking up helpful advice on looking after little teeth and gums when the Smile Squad comes to St Helens during the October half term holidays.
Article date: 19 October
St Helens Family Hubs, the University of Liverpool School of Dentistry and St Helens Wellbeing Service (CHCP), commissioned by St Helens Borough Council Public Health, are working together to bring early years oral healthcare sessions to babies and children across the borough.
The Smile Squad visit will take place alongside a Family Fun Day, with autumn themed arts and crafts and pumpkin on offer.
Councillor Eileen Fleming, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Health, said:
"Good oral health habits start from an early age, so it's great to see the Smile Squad returning to St Helens and making dental care fun and accessible for our youngest residents.
"Families can get practical advice on looking after teeth and gums, as well as enjoying the wider family fun day activities, so I'd encourage parents and carers to come along with their little ones and get involved."
During the session, families can:
Have their child's mouth checked by a member of the Smile Squad team
Pick up useful tips and advice on caring for teeth and gums
Take home some freebies
Meet friendly mascots Croc-o-Smile and Captain Tuck
Michelle Loughlin, Public Health Consultant at St Helens Borough Council, said:
"The Smile Squad provides dental support right in the heart of the community. Children can get free dental checks in the familiar friendly environment of a Family Hub. Tooth decay is really painful and can impact on a child's confidence and can even mean them taking time off school.
"Smile Squad can help prevent that by supporting good habits from an early age providing free toothbrushes, toothpaste and simple but important advice on healthy eating and regular tooth brushing."
The Smile Squad and Family Fun Day will take place at Sutton Family Hub, Ellamsbridge Road, on Monday 26 October, from 10:00am to 1:00pm.
