The market, which is being delivered by Independent Street on behalf of St Helens Borough Council, debuts on Saturday 21 March, offering an opportunity to discover local artists, makers and retailers alongside family friendly activities and live entertainment.

Musician and songwriter Vernon Fuller will be performing a mix of crowd favourites and original songs live throughout the day. Vernon, a proud resident of St Helens, started out playing with reggae and funk bands and, as a solo artist, is a regular at jazz festivals across the UK.

Speaking of performing at the first Artisan Market, Vernon said:  "I am excited to be playing in the town that I live in and to bring my brand of music to St Helens."

The market will feature over 50 stalls with a wide range of independent traders, offering handmade crafts, original artwork, street food, baked goods and unique one-of-a-kind gifts as well as free children's arts and crafts activities.

Mira, owner of Smart Bakery, who will be trading at the Artisan Market said: "I'm Mira, mum to two little ones and owner of Smart Bakery. I am St Helens-based and love to bake lots of sweet treats. You will find me at the market with a bit of everything such as brownies, cookie pies, buttercream cakes, strudels, biscuits and much more so come say hi!"

Councillor Richard McCauley, Cabinet Member for Regeneration at St Helens Borough Council said: "It is fantastic to see so many local traders signed up for the Spring start for this year's first St Helens Artisan Market.  I am really looking forward to exploring the stalls and seeing what's on offer. Events like this are an opportunity for us all to support and showcase the creativity, passion and talent that we have in our Borough and to remind residents and visitors that, as regeneration works continue, our town centres remain open for business and ready to welcome you."

Lisa Cowley, Founder, Independent Street said: "We have had an overwhelming response to our launch in St Helens. We have just shy of 60 artisan stalls signed up to join us, many are award winning and there will be lots of local talent. It is incredible to see how much talent there is right here in St Helens, and we cannot wait to shine a spotlight on these brilliant small businesses."

Elsewhere in the town centre the fortnightly Craft Fair will be running in St Mary's Market from 9:00am-3:00pm offering more opportunity to browse a range of handcrafted items such as bath bombs, cards and candles.
