Each year, more than 3,200 women in the UK are diagnosed with cervical cancer, with cervical screening—commonly known as a smear test— one of the most effective ways to prevent the disease.

To make screening easier and more accessible, the Living Well Bus - delivered by Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust - is offering free, private, and discreet cervical screening at convenient locations across the borough. No appointment is necessary - just drop in at a time that suits you.

Encouraging eligible residents to attend, Jamaila Hussain, Executive Director of People's Services at St Helens Borough Council, said:

"Cervical screening is a quick and simple test that can prevent cancer and save lives. We understand that everyday commitments can make it hard to attend appointments, which is why these free, walk-in sessions are so important. If you're eligible, please take this opportunity. Early detection is one of the best ways to protect your health."

Councillor Andy Bowden, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Health, added:

"Cervical screening is one of the most effective ways to prevent cervical cancer, yet many people miss their appointments due to barriers like time or privacy concerns. By offering these free and accessible sessions, we want to make it as easy as possible for residents to take this important step for their health. Please don't be put it off - your screening could save your life."
