Exciting new chapter for Moss Bank Library and neighbourhood services
An exciting new chapter is on the horizon for Moss Bank Library as it prepares to relocate to Moss Bank Children's Centre.
Article date: 14 November 2025
The move will bring the library together with a range of other local services - to form the new North Community Hub.
The library will close to the public at its current location on Bowness Avenue at 5pm on Monday 8 December, and reopen as part of the hub on Kentmere Avenue at 10am on Thursday 18 December.
During the temporary closure, items can be renewed either online or at any St Helens Library.
The library will continue to offer all existing services at its new location, just ten minutes' walk from the current site.
Children's centre services and Portico Nursery will continue to run from the new hub site, with access strengthened to ensure safeguarding, meaning continuity for local families while expanding the offer.
Development of the North Community Hub and the South Community Hub (at Chester Lane Library) forms part of St Helens Borough Council's 'One Neighbourhood' strategy - a long-term plan to bring essential services together under one roof, making them more accessible, better coordinated, and tailored to local needs.
The hub will offer a wide range of community services, including:
- Library services
- Health and mental health support
- Housing advice
- Training and employment support
- Children's and adults' social care
- Neighbourhood policing
Councillor Sue Murphy MBE, Cabinet Member for Localities, Culture and Heritage, said:
"It's an exciting time for our library services in Moss Bank as they prepare to move to their new home, where they'll join key neighbourhood services in an expanded offer for the local community.
"We hope you'll come visit the team in the new North Community Hub, explore everything the library has to offer, and discover the wider range of support and activities available."
