St Helens Borough Council's Cabinet will discuss the St Helens Adults Safeguarding Board's Annual Review for 2024/25 which outlines the work it has done to support adults from abuse and neglect.

Councillor Andy Bowden, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care, said: "The work of the St Helens Adults Safeguarding Board is a vital way that the council and its partners can make sure that we are all focused on protecting our most vulnerable adults from abuse and neglect.

"While it is a statutory expectation reviewing the board annually helps us to continually monitor and review processes to make sure it is delivering for residents. This report highlights the many activities that happened over the last year to make sure that our residents' voices were heard, understood and supported."

The report highlights several achievements of the board including the creation of a front door decision making tool to support frontline staff to refer to appropriate services. The partnership also worked together to provide training opportunities for frontline staff to learn more about areas such as self-neglect and help in breaking down barriers that stop someone from getting help.

It also focused on establishing feedback mechanisms to hear directly from individuals with lived experience of harm or abuse, and using this insight to shape responsive, person-centred approaches. And also a strong focus of promotion of adult safeguarding by all partners, particularly around National Adult Safeguarding Week with coordinated messages and awareness raising tailored to diverse audiences.

The annual report will be discussed at Cabinet on Wednesday, 19th November. To find out more and watch the meeting visit: Agenda for Cabinet on Wednesday, 19th November, 2025, 4.00 pm St Helens Borough Council
