St Helens Borough Council's Cabinet will discuss the plans that will see six new vehicles replacing a section of the fleet. As part of the replacement, in line with the council's Net Zero commitments to reduce its carbon emissions one of the six vehicles will be electric.

Councillor Tracy Dickinson, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods and Environmental Services, said: "We have a fleet of 25 waste collection vehicles which are replaced on a rolling basis. If the plans are approved next week these new additions will replace a batch of vehicles which are coming towards the ends of their operational life having put many miles on the clock in delivering our waste collection services over the last seven years. Having a more modern fleet, which we manage in-house, means less need for preventative maintenance that then reduces possible impacts on how waste is collected from residents' homes.

"This refresh of the vehicles also opens up the opportunity for us to go further on our commitment to hitting our Net Zero targets with the purchase of an electric vehicle as part of the plans. The other vehicles will also offer lower emission levels and the mix of the two will be supported by the capacity for electric charging at Hardshaw Brook Depot. In future refreshes we expect to see this figure expand with the expansion of charging capacity and costs.

The plans will be discussed on Wednesday 22nd October at 4pm. To find out more and watch online visit: https://sthelens.moderngov.co.uk/ieListDocuments.aspx?CId=193&MId=15303&Ver=4
