Contractor appointed for Gamble Building transformation
Steps to transform the Gamble Building into a creative and learning hub that is a jewel in the crown of St Helens town centre moved further towards its completion with the appointment of a contractor for the next stage in the process.

Robertson Construction North West has been awarded the design and build contract which will see the historic Victoria Square building be brought back to life by bringing St Helens Central Library back as a modern and interactive facility, together with a new state-of-the-art archive and youth hub, as well modern office workspaces and communal spaces that include a café.
The development also includes a new contemporary extension on the rear of the building, creating an accessible and stronger connection with the soon to be completed St Helens Transport Interchange, providing a welcoming entrance linking directly to the newly created Gamble Plaza and the wider Phase 1 town centre regeneration area.
As part of this next phase, Robertson will first undertake a detailed review of the proposals to ensure they are fully buildable and deliverable. The team will then work collaboratively with the council and project partners to identify opportunities to preserve the quality and ambition of the scheme while achieving the best possible value for money.

Robertson has its regional office based in Haydock so the team there understand the importance of The Gamble Building in the borough. We believe they will not just deliver a revitalised landmark for us but also play a part in supporting the wider community through their social value projects and support for local businesses."

The Gamble Building, which was closed to the public due to structural issues, has already undergone around £1.2m of external repair works that included improvements to the roofing and drainage systems, the installation of new windows, and extensive restoration of the heritage brickwork and terracotta features.
