Residents across St Helens borough are being encouraged to take a simple step towards improving their health by getting their blood pressure checked for free during Know Your Numbers Week this September.

The Living Well Bus, delivered by Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, will be in Victoria Square, St Helens town centre, on Monday 7 September, offering free blood pressure checks and health advice.

The event - arranged by St Helens Borough Council Public Health - is open to everyone and no appointment is needed. Residents can simply drop in throughout the day to receive a free check and speak to healthcare professionals about maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

As someone who has lived with high blood pressure and knows the importance of keeping it under control, St Helens Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Health, Councillor Eileen Fleming, said:

"High blood pressure is often called a 'silent killer' because it can have no obvious symptoms while increasing the risk of serious conditions such as heart attacks and strokes.

"Since improving my lifestyle and losing five stone in weight, through diet and fitness, my blood pressure has reduced significantly, showing how small changes can make a real difference to your health.

"That's why I would encourage anyone who is in the town that day to visit the Living Well Bus. The checks are quick, free and could help identify potential health issues early, allowing people to access the support and advice they need."

Know Your Numbers Week (7-13 September) is the UK's biggest annual blood pressure testing and awareness campaign, helping people understand the importance of monitoring their blood pressure and reducing their risk of developing serious cardiovascular diseases.

The Living Well Bus will be located in Victoria Square between 10.30am and 4pm on Monday 7 September.
