The Councillor Community Fund from St Helens Borough Council will let community groups bid for up to £2,000 to support days out, sports kits and equipment, improve community facilities and events.

Council Leader Councillor George Woodward welcomed the announcement of the fund.

He said: "This year I've been fortunate enough to see firsthand the passion, pride and knowledge that so many community groups have about the people they serve, many giving up time and resources for free, to help make a difference every day. One of our first priorities is giving those communities and the groups who serve them a boost through this new scheme that will enhance the work they do for everyone living in every part of St Helens.

"All councillors in every ward will be given up to £2,000 to give grants from £250 to community groups to deliver activities or fund projects that the community want to see and will benefit from. I'm sure there are many groups who will be able to make use of this fund and full details will be released soon."

The scheme works with community groups submitting bids to their local ward councillors with bids from £250 up to £2,000 available through to bidding windows in September and January for projects delivered up to March 2027.

Full details of the scheme and how to apply will be publicised in the coming weeks.
