Over 98 per cent of families secure a preferred secondary school place for September 2026

Figures released by St Helens Borough Council's School Admissions Team today show that more than 98 per cent of parents and carers have secured one of their preferred secondary schools for their child for the next academic year, this September.

The data presents a strong picture, with more than 93 per cent of applicants receiving their first-choice school; 4.81 per cent given their second choice and 0.27 per cent allocated their third choice.

Councillor Nova Charlton, St Helens Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said:

"These results once again demonstrate the strength and reliability of our school admissions process. Ensuring families can access one of their preferred schools is a key priority for us, and I'm delighted that such a high proportion have received the outcome they hoped for.

"I want to thank our admissions team for their hard work and professionalism in meeting the allocation deadline and fulfilling our statutory duty to provide every child with a school place."
