Church event to commemorate sixth anniversary of COVID-19 pandemic
St Helens Borough Council, in partnership with St Helens Parish Church and Halton and St Helens Voluntary Community Action (HSVCA), is hosting a memorial event on Wednesday 4 March to commemorate the sixth anniversary of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Article date: 24 February 2026
Open to the public, the event will reflect on the profound impact COVID-19 had on local communities across the borough, honour the loved ones lost, and highlight the strength and unity demonstrated during those challenging years.
The event will also include a time of remembrance and reflection, allowing people the opportunity to share personal stories; highlight the collaborative work of St Helens Together during the pandemic and celebrate the community's response in supporting each other.
St Helens Borough Council Leader, Councillor Anthony Burns, said:
"This event offers us the opportunity to come together in remembrance of those we have lost, to applaud the resilience of our residents, and to reflect on the extraordinary efforts made by everyone to support each other through this crisis as #StHelensTogether.
"As we move forward, we stand united, committed to building a stronger, more compassionate future for all in St Helens Borough."
Rev Rachel Shuttleworth, Team Vicar at St Helens Parish Church, said: "We were all affected by Covid-19 and the enormous changes it brought to all our lives. This event gives us all the opportunity to stop, remember and reflect on what we lost and what we learned during that time."
Sally Yeoman MBE, Chief Executive of HSVCA, added: "The pandemic brought out the very best of our volunteering spirit and the amazing local groups and organisations we have in the borough. From supporting the testing and vaccination programme to delivering food and essential supplies to our most vulnerable residents, volunteers stepped forward in their numbers.
"Their compassion, energy and willingness to serve made an enormous difference at a time when our communities needed it most. This is a chance to honour those remarkable efforts and recognise the strength they brought to St Helens."
The event will take place in St Helens Parish Church, Church Square, St Helens, on Wednesday 4 March from 3:30pm-5:00pm.
