Neighbourhood services closer than ever as North Community Hub opens in Moss Bank
A brand-new community hub has officially opened in Moss Bank to serve the north of the borough, marking a major milestone in St Helens Borough Council's work to bring local services closer to residents and together under one roof.

The North Community Hub on Kentmere Avenue was formally opened last week (Thursday 18 December), with the Mayor of St Helens Borough and senior councillors in attendance. The event featured tours of the new facilities, opportunities for residents to meet the teams delivering services from the hub, and a carol service by children from the neighbouring Carr Mill Primary School.
The new hub combines the relocated Moss Bank Library with a range of community, health, and support services - creating a welcoming, accessible space designed to make it easier for residents to access the help and information they need.
Moss Bank Library recently closed its doors on Bowness Avenue and reopened within the hub, continuing to offer all its usual services just a ten-minute walk from its previous location.
Children's centre services and Portico Nursery continue to operate from the hub - with secure, safeguarded access - ensuring continuity for local families while introducing even more opportunities for community connection and support.
The new North Community Hub offers a wide range of services, including:
- Library services
- Health and mental health support
- Housing advice
- Training and employment support
- Children's and adults' social care
- Neighbourhood policing
Development of the North Community Hub - alongside the South Community Hub at Chester Lane Library - forms part of St Helens Borough Council's 'One Neighbourhood' strategy, a long-term plan to bring essential services together under one roof, making them more accessible, better coordinated, and tailored to local needs.
Councillor Sue Murphy MBE, Cabinet Member for Localities, Culture and Heritage, said:
"It's an exciting time for our library services in Moss Bank and for the wider community. The new North Community Hub brings together a range of vital services in one welcoming space, making it easier for residents to find the support they need and connect with others.
"This is all about creating a vibrant, inclusive space where people of all ages can learn, grow, and feel supported right in the heart of their community.
"We hope everyone will come and visit the teams, explore everything the hub has to offer, and discover all the new opportunities available."
The North Community Hub follows the successful launch of the South Community Hub in Chester Lane earlier this year, which has already seen increased use by residents and strong partnerships with local service providers, including Torus Housing, Smoking Cessation, Talking Therapies, and Career Connect.
