Linda's Park was officially unveiled on Friday, 14th November to honour her 30 years of service as a local councillor for the area. Ashurst Primary School hosted a special unveiling of a plaque in Linda's honour as the new green space was the final project she worked on before her sad death in 2024. The new park is the final piece of the transformation of the Blackbrook school site, which moved to a new purpose-built home in the ward back in the spring of 2023.
Councillor Anthony Burns, Council Leader, said: "This is a really fitting tribute to Linda, who was dedicated to the community of Blackbrook. The renovation of the park was the last project Linda was involved in backing for the Blackbrook community. No one fought harder than Linda to secure the funding for the rebuild of Ashurst primary. While Linda was delighted to see staff and pupils settle into the purpose-built modern facilities they enjoy back in 2023 it is incredibly sad that she isn't here today to see the final piece of that transformation.
"We were so pleased that Ashurst Primary School have supported this project and Linda would love to know that her hard work will forever make a difference to children and families in her ward. It is only fitting that this can become a lasting legacy for her dedication to the Blackbrook community."
The official unveiling saw a performance from Valley Brass Band who joined Linda's family and friends and the Mayor of St Helens Borough, Councillor Seve Gomez-Aspron MBE who officially opened the new park.
