St Helens Borough Council held the celebration event at St Helens Town Hall to thank just some of the amazing people who go above and beyond for their communities with certificates of recognition handed out to a variety of community groups including friends of parks groups, arts groups and sports teams.

Councillor Anthony Burns, Council Leader, said: "These people represent the real heart of our St Helens Borough community and I was delighted to be there to celebrate their dedication and passion to the things they love. Volunteering is a truly wonderful thing to do and speaking to so many people it is a light in their lives and helps them keep connected to their community, supporting others and a way to enjoy their passions. Volunteering plays a vital role in building strong communities and social networks, and whilst it can help to improve well-being, the Council recognises that our volunteers also helps us to deliver better and improved services and contributes to delivering significant financial benefits.

"There was a diverse mix of groups who volunteer to support some of the many services we run as a council such as our Archives, Arts in Library services, family hubs and parks and open spaces to name just a few. There are also many more opportunities available in community groups near you and volunteering is a brilliant way to make new friends, fill your spare time and make a difference to others."

This celebration was our way to thank people who volunteer with council services including cultural services, parks and open spaces, children's services and community services among others.
