St Helens Borough Council's Cabinet is set to review the Safer St Helens Executive's Annual Report which puts a spotlight on the work carried out by the members of this statutory partnership to support residents and businesses and the impact this work had.
The report shows that overall crime in the borough fell by 11 per cent compared to the previous year, the highest drop across the Merseyside Police footprint. This included 10.2 per cent reduction in violent and sexual crimes, a 22 per cent fall in burglaries and a 22 per cent fall in public order offences.
It also highlights the work to tackle domestic abuse with the Domestic Abuse Partnership Strategy development work pulling together plans to combat this issue over the next three years which was launched in June this year.
There is also recognition of the continued partnership working through the Night Time Economy Forum that included the re-accreditation of the Purple Flag Award for St Helens town centre and the work across the forum to provide strong leadership that helped clinch the national award.
The partnership came together in Operation Banger, which kept communities safe by working across organisations, with St Helens Borough Council and Merseyside Fire and Rescue teams removing 8.3 tonnes of combustible waste ahead of the busy period, alongside proactive policing and outreach work in hotspot areas to tackle anti-social behaviour.
Community groups were also supported through partnership working with the likes of the Safe Saints event last year that saw 18 community groups benefit from £50,000 worth of funding to support positive activities across the borough.
Councillor Trisha Long, Cabinet Member for Strong Communities, said: "This annual report is important to residents because it shows the positive outcomes resulting from the hard work of all St Helens Borough Community Safety Partnership members who've delivered a variety of initiatives that make our borough a better place to live, work and visit. We know there is always more to do and we will continue to work hard as a strong and committed partnership to support our residents and businesses."
The annual report will be discussed at Cabinet on Wednesday 22nd October at 4pm. To read the report and find out more visit: Agenda for Cabinet on Wednesday, 22nd October, 2025, 4.00 pm St Helens Borough Council
